In the year 20██, humanity is on the brink of destruction.They appear by the millions, scattered across the face of the Earth, grotesque shadow-like creatures with a taste for blood. Known as Traces, they tear through cities and level towns within hours. Billions are lost within the first week alone.It is soon discovered that Antarctica is the only continent free from the Traces, which attracts survivors from all over the world. There, within the cold, humanity builds its final stronghold.
Among them is Doumeki Gantai and her elite squad, tasked with the protection of these refugees, as well as the slow and painful reestablishment of human civilization. But the Traces inevitably make their way there, breaking through the frontlines and wreaking havoc on the settlements that had only just been built. During the final stand at the last bastion of humanity, Gantai’s squad is annihilated. Even Gantai is fatally wounded.A wandering god takes pity on her and the state of the world. The god offers her a chance, an eye, an opportunity to seek the truth. On what would’ve been her dying breath, Gantai accepts.
The eye allows Gantai to travel to the past, and she settles on present-day Antarctica, in hopes of discovering the origin of the Traces and to prevent the destruction that was fated to come. There, in her new base of operations, Gantai documents her past, the world’s future, and her search for the truth.
